WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams enjoyed their third home meet of the season Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals hosted the 16-team Saint Mary's Invitational.
And the Cardinals definitely saved their best home performance for their last.
Becca Dup highlighted the Cardinals' effort, breaking her own school record in the long jump with a second-place leap of 5.74 meters.
Dup's effort was one of 16 Top 10 efforts for the Cardinals, who also got second-place showings from
Danielle Franke (steeplechase, 12:22.36),
Desmond Steward (triple jump, 43.38m),
Austin O'Hare steeplechase, 9:38.14),
Kyle Lichttenegger (100, 10.94) and the men's 4x100 relay team of Steward, Lichttenegger, Andrew Allemann, and
Matthew Boone.
Along with her second in the long jump, Dup added a sixth in the triple jump (11.30m), with
Alexis Floresca chipping in a sixth in the 100 (12.84), and
Alicia Berkenes,
Emily Ortiz, and
Rachel Ohde chipping in sevenths in the 800 (2:29.85), 5,000 (21:21.42), and high jump (1.55m), respectively.
Portia Mensah also recorded a Top 10 finish for the Cardinal women, placing 10
th in the javelin (18.00m).
Tanner Morris delivered a third-place finish in the 1,500 (4:22.23), with Steward adding a fifth in the triple jump (13.14m) and
Ross Kinderman equaling that place finish in the javelin (48.76m).
Christian Beamer cleared 1.85m to finish sixth in the high jump and
Connor Nicholas posted a 10.15m throw in the shot put to place eighth.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, heading to St. Paul, Minn., to take part in the St. Thomas Tommie Twilight.
