ST. PAUL, Minn. — For several Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field athletes, Saturday's Meet of the UnSaintly was one last opportunity to put up a good performance prior to the outdoor season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next weekend.
And the Cardinals weren't about to waste this opportunity.
Christian Beamer (Two Harbors, Minn.) picked up the Cardinals' lone first-place finish, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters, while
Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.) enjoyed a banner day, posting seconds in the long jump (6.35m) and the 200 (22.12), and adding a fourth in the 100 (10.94) to pace the Cardinal men.
Maria Missurelli (Franklin, Wis.)—coming off a record-setting leap of 3.50 meters in the pole vault at the Tommie Twilight on Wednesday—posted yet another solid performance, placing second with a mark of 3.36m.
Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.) chipped in a third-place effort in the high jump (1.58m), with
Hannah Crowe (Baraboo, Wis.) adding a fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.45) and
Natalie King (Houston, Minn.) delivering a sixth-place throw of 45.11m in the hammer.
The Cardinals now head to Northfield, Minn., next Friday and Saturday for the two-day MIAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Carleton
