INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team kicked off a busy weekend on a winning note Friday, as the Cardinals got four-over-par 76s from both
Juan Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) and
Tyler Dove (Hudson, Wis.) en route to a 331-343 victory over Macalester in the teams' annual Mac/Mary Dual at Inver Wood Golf Course.
The Cardinal women were not as fortunate, as Saint Mary's—despite a team-best 89 from Jessica Massimo (Kenosha, Wis.) in her collegiate debut—fell to the Scots 347-395.
Along with the efforts of Sanchez and Dove, the Cardinal men also got an 81 from
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.), 86s from
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) and
Alex Kren (Nielsville, Wis.), an 88 from
Blair Sanders (Kansas City, Mo.), and a 93 from
Jake Emeott (Chisago City, Minn.).
Alex Johnson and Karanja Karubiu led the way for Macalester, shooting an 81 and an 84, respectively.
Megan Larson (Galesville, Wis.) and Annie Lorsung (Amery, Wis.)—also making their collegiate debuts for the Cardinals—chipped in rounds of 96 and 99, with Annika Blesener (North St. Paul, Minn.) and Dani Stevens (Delano, Minn.) rounding out the lineup with rounds of 102 and 105, respectively.
Macalester's Kiwa Anisman earned medalist honors for in the women's dual, shooting an 82.
Both Saint Mary's teams are back in action this weekend. The Cardinal men head to Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake, Minn., to take part in the 36-hole Augsburg Invitational, while the Saint Mary's women are off to Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell, Minn., to compete in the Saint Benedict Invitational.
