WINONA, Minn. — It was perfection times two for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team Friday during the opening day of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic.
The Cardinals, coming off a 3-0 sweep of Dominican to open the season, posted sweep No. 2 against Augustana, rolling to wins of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-22.
Saint Mary's—the only team in the six-team tournament to win both of its matches Friday—boasted three players with 10 or more kills, led by
Rachel Kedl (Lamberton, Minn.) with 11.
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) and
Brittney Flom (Kenyon, Minn.) each chipped in 10 kills, while
Lillian Braun (Kasson, Minn.) delivered 31 assists. Carly Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.) finished with a team-best 14 digs, with
Grace Gilles (Apple Valley, Minn.) and
DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) adding 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Victoria Biggerstaff finished with seven kills and McKenzie Zambrano tallied 12 assist in the losing effort for Augustana (1-1 overall)
The Cardinals (2-0 overall) close out the tournament on Saturday, squaring off against Northland at 10 a.m., before facing Luther at 2 p.m.
