LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team kicked off the inaugural Saint Mary's Invitational in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals — behind the stellar play of
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) and
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.) — posted an opening round 316 and are sitting third in the 36-hole tournament.
Brodt led the charge for the Cardinals, shooting a four-over-par 75, while Abdo chipped in an eight-over 79. With his 75, Brodt finds himself tied for second, one shot out of the lead, while the Cardinals are currently sitting third heading into Sunday's final round.
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) chipped in an 80, followed by
Juan Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) with an 82 and
Tyler Dove (Hudson, Wis.) with an 84.
St. Olaf holds the first-round lead, shooting a 304, four shots in front of Wartburg. Saint Mary's is third (316), followed by UW-Superior (322) and St. Scholastica (337).
Micah Harber of Wartburg carded the low individual round of the day, shooting a three-over 74, one shot in front of Brodt, Olle Sedelius of UW-Superior, and St. Olaf's Steve Magagna, Adrian Edralin, and Casey Parker.
The Cardinals return to The Jewel on Sunday for the second round of the two-day tournament.
