WINONA, Minn. — When the Saint Mary's University and Augsburg women's soccer teams squared off a year ago, the Auggies' Ashley St. Aubin proved to be the Cardinals' worst nightmare.
St. Aubin scored both Augsburg goals three minutes apart late in the first half in lifting the Auggies to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.
Fast-forward to Saturday afternoon — and St. Aubin was at it again.
Only this time, the Auggie scoring machine had some help.
St. Aubin scored twice — the second as part of a three-goal outburst in a three-minute span — in leading Augsburg to a 6-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over the Cardinals at Ochrymowycz Field.
St. Aubin got the Auggies on the board early, scoring the game's first goal in the eighth minute — and Augsburg would maintain that one-goal advantage through the remainder of the half.
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Auggies' offense kicked into high gear coming out of the halftime break.
Jessy Wiskofske pushed the Augsburg lead to 2-0 in the 50
th minute, and St. Aubin and Gabriela Encarnacion followed with back-to-back goals 34 seconds apart three minutes later to make it 4-0.
And the Auggies were not done.
Wiskofske tallied her second of the game in the 59
th minute and Olivia House added her first of the season eight minutes later to round out the Auggies' five-goal second half.
Gabriella Pederson (Chaska, Minn.) finished with nine saves in goal for the Cardinals, while Emily Chapman stopped all four Saint Mary's shots she faced in the first 69 minutes, with Sabrina Shaw playing the final 21 minutes in goal for the Auggies.
The Cardinals (0-2-0 MIAC, 5-3-0 overall) are back in conference action on Wednesday, traveling to Bethel's Ona Orth Athletic Complex in Arden Hills, Minn., for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Royals.
