ALGONQUIN, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team was a model of consistency at the 36-hole Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament.
A day after carding an opening-round 312, the Cardinals put together a second-straight 312 on Saturday to earn a ninth-place finish in the 21-team field.
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, following his season-best two-over-par 73 in Friday's opening round with a six-over 77 for a 150 total and a ninth-place finish individually.
Tyler Dove (Hudson, Wis.) recorded the Cardinals' best round of the day on Saturday, shooting a 75 for a two-day 155, while
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn. / 78-81—159),
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn. / 83-79—162) and
Juan Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia / 81-84—165) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.
Illinois Wesleyan won the team title, putting together rounds of 283-292—575 to beat host Carthage by 30 strokes. Millikin placed third (303-304—607), followed by Carthage #2 (309-306—615) and Elmhurst (308-310—618).
Illinois Wesleyan boasted the top two individual finishers in Ben Johnson (71-71—142) and Drew Pershing (72-71—143, while IW's Andrew Abel (71-73—144) and Millikin's Lee Hill (74-70—144 finished tied for third.
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend, traveling to Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Ill., to compete in the 36-hole Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine.
