MOORHEAD, Minn. — New day, same result — almost.
For the second straight day — and for the fourth time in their last five games — the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team headed into overtime deadlocked at 1-1.
Unlike the previous three outings, however, this one would not end in a 1-1 deadlock.
Courtney Moser (Blaine, Minn.) made sure of that.
Moser scored the game-winning goal 2:35 into the overtime period, as the Cardinals collected a 2-1 win over Concordia — and took three of four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference points off the Cobbers over the weekend.
After a scoreless first period,
Bailey Wendt (Roseville, Minn.) got the Cardinals on the board, taking a feed from
Lauryn Folker (Cody, Wyo.) and beating Concordia goalie Emily Musielewicz 1:49 into the middle frame.
As was the case on Friday night, the Cobbers found a third-period answer, getting a goal from Amanda Flemming at 3:00 of period No. 3 to send the game into overtime — again.
This time around, however, the deadlock would not last the entire five-minute overtime, as Moser found the back of the net off an assist
Natalie Ryan (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) to give the Cardinals the win.
Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) picked up the win in goal for the Cardinals, stopping 24 of the 25 shots she faced, while Musielewicz made 31 saves for the Cobbers.
The Cardinals (2-5-1 MIAC, 5-7-3 overall) are back in action next weekend for a pair of conference games against St. Catherine. Saint Mary's and SCU will square off at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minn., before heading to the Saint Mary's Ice Arena for Saturday's 4 p.m. rematch.
