WINONA, Minn. — After a 2-2 overtime tie the first game of its two-game conference series against St. Catherine Friday night, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team was hoping for a better outcome in the team's rematch on Saturday.
The Cardinals got what they wanted — thanks in large part to Natalie Ryan (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) and Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.).
Ryan scored the game's only goal, and Keeley stopped all 28 shots she faced, as Saint Mary's blanked the Wildcats 1-0 at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
Ryan scored the first, and only, goal of the game in just under 10 minutes of the first period, off assists from Courtney Moser (Blaine, Minn.) and Bailey Wendt (Coon Rapids, Minn.).
And with Keeley between the pipes, one goal was all the Cardinals would need, as the freshman notched her second shutout of the season.
The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend for two conference games against Gustavus. The two teams will face off first on Friday at 7 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn., and again on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
