STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The last time the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team took the ice, the Cardinals closed out the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 3-0 nonconference win over UW-Stevens Point.
Friday evening, the Cardinals were back on the ice — once again against the Pointers — to open the 2019 portion of their schedule.
With almost the same results.
Delaney Wolf (Bismarck, N.D.) scored with less than four minutes remaining in the first period, and the Cardinals made that solo goal stand up, as the two teams skated to a 1-1, overtime tie.
Wolf found the back of the net with 3:56 remaining in the opening period, the Cardinals maintained that advantage until early in the third, when Dani Heitsman scored the equalizer at 5:45 of the third stanza.
Neither team would score in the final 14:15 of the third period, as Saint Mary's recorded its first overtime tie of the season.
Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) recorded 28 saves in goal for the Cardinals — including 12 in the third period, while Sydney Conley stopped 30 of Saint Mary's 31 shots in goal for the Pointers.
The Cardinals (4-6-1 overall) square off against Marian in a 5 p.m. nonconference showdown Saturday during the second day of the UW-Stevens Point Crossover Tournament at Ice Hawk Arena in Stevens Point, Wis.
