WINONA, Minn. —Â
Lillian Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) was in a very giving mood last weekend — much to the delight of the Saint Mary's University volleyball team.
Â
Braun dished out 120 assists as the Cardinals completed a perfect 2-0 weekend — knocking off No. 5 Saint Benedict 3-1 last Friday and rallying from a 2-0 deficit to beat Concordia 3-2 the following afternoon.
Â
And Monday afternoon — after all that giving — it was Braun's turn to be on the receiving end, as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awarded the Cardinal senior MIAC Setter/Libero of the Week honors.
Â
Braun accounted for 55 of Saint Mary's 57 assists in helping the Cardinals knock off fifth-ranked Saint Benedict — snapping the Bennies' 14-game winning streak — before delivering 65 helpers in SMU's 3-2 come-from-behind win over Concordia the following afternoon.
Â
Braun — whose 65 assists vs. Concordia last Saturday were two short of her school-record 67-assist effort against Hamline Sept. 18 — also added 15 digs against the Cobbers for her fifth double-double of the season.
Â
With her 120 assists last weekend, Braun pushed her team-leading total to 864 through 22 matches — and has now eclipsed the 50-assist barrier five this season. Along with her 55 helpers against Saint Benedict and 65 vs. Concordia, Braun posted 54 assists against UW-Superior on Aug. 30, 53 against Coe on Sept. 27, and 52 against Marian on Sept. 13.
Â
Braun has now recorded 321 of the team's 343 assists in the last seven matches and heads into Saturday's match against Concordia with 2,859 career assists.
