ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's has been on a roll of late — and Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals kept on rolling.
The Cardinals took the field against Hamline having won two straight — and were unbeaten in their last three contests (2-0-1) — and thanks to a late second-half goal by
Kassie Arriaga (Chula Vista, Calif.) that streak climbed to four.
Arriaga's goal in the 79th minute broke a 0-0 deadlock and lifted the Cardinals to their third straight victory — a 1-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference decision over the Pipers at Paterson Field.
Hamline boasted a 13-4 advantage in shots attempted — including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal — but the Cardinals took the quality-over-quantity approach, scoring on one of those two shots on goal.
Gabriella Pederson (Chaska, Minn.) picked up her seventh shutout of the season, and 14th of her collegiate career, stopping all four Piper shots.
The Cardinals (2-6-1 MIAC, 9-6-1 overall), who picked up their ninth win of the season — marking the first time since 2009 that Saint Mary's has won nine games — return to conference play on Wednesday, heading to St. Paul, Minn., for a 7 p.m. MIAC matchup against Macalester. The Pipers (1-8-0 MIAC, 5-8-0 overall) are back at Paterson Field in St. Paul, Minn., on Wednesday, playing host to Gustavus in a 3:30 p.m. conference showdown.
