WINONA, Minn. — There's no rest for the weary.
Â
Which is most likely how the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team was Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals took the court for the second time in less than 24 hours.
Â
Weary or not, the Cardinals were up to the challenge,Â
pushing their winning streak to four straight with a 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over St. Catherine at the Winona Tennis Center.
As was the case in their 7-2 win over St. Olaf on Friday, the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches, as Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Minn.)/Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) and Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.)/Ashley Frederickson (St. James, Minn.) each recorded doubles victories.
Sonday, Lois, and Boeve each followed up their doubles wins with straight-set singles wins — Sonday winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, Lois winining 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Boeve posting a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5, respectively
The Cardinals (3-3 MIAC, 6-5 overall) are back in action on March 24, when they return to the Winona Tennis Center for a conference showdown against Concordia. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
