PEOSTA, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule in impressive fashion Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals were a model of consistency during the opening round of the 36-hole Loras Invitational, getting a pair of 78s and two 80s and are sitting sixth heading into Monday's final round.
Juan Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) and
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.) each shot opening-round 78s to lead the Cardinals, while
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) and
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) each added 80s.
Host Loras leads the 10-team field, shooting a 309 for a two-shot lead over UW-Stout. The University of Dubuque is third at 314, followed by Clark (315), Loras B (315), and Saint Mary's (316).
The second round of the two-day evening at Thunder Hills Country Club will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.
