Malikowski, Franke lead the way for Cardinals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Jordan Malikowski (Royalton, Minn.) and Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) turned in the Cardinals' best times of the afternoon, as the Saint Mary's men's cross country placed 14th and the women were 20th at the National Catholic Invitational Friday, hosted by Notre Dame.
 
Malikowski clocked an eight-kilometer time of 28:56 to pace the Cardinal men, while Franke stopped the clock with a 5K time of 21:04 to lead the way for the Saint Mary's women.
 
Host Notre Dame took home the men's team title, taking the top five spots en route to a 54-point win over runner-up Walsh. Dayton was third, followed by Canisius and Loras. The Fighting Irish also claimed the top spot in the women's race, posting the first-, second-, third-, and fifth-place times for an 18-point total, 52 points in front of Dayton, with Holy Cross, Walsh, and Creighton rounding out the top five.
 
Along with Malikowski's 28:56, the Cardinals also got a 29:34 from Jon Meaden (Rosemount, Minn.), a 29:41 from Caedon McCartney (Owatonna, Minn.), a 29:56 from Tanner Moris (Crandon, Wis.), and a 30:15 from Axel Daood (St. Charles, Minn.).
 
Anna Marinc (Carol Stream, Ill.) was the second Saint Mary's female across the finish line, clocking a time of 22:20, followed by Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis. / 22:36), Madalyn Bollig (St. Croix Falls, Wis. / 24:20), Emma Ririe (Dairen, Ill. / 24:50), Julia VanWaternmuelen (Ellsworth, Wis. / 25:35), and Rachel Simon ( / 29:40).
 
Notre Dame's Dyland Jacobs won the men's individual title with a time of 25:08 to edge teammate Matthew Carmody, while
