WINONA, Minn. — It was a week to remember for Saint Mary's University's Eli Szymanski (La Crosse, Wis.).

The sophomore scored three of the Saint Mary's men's soccer team's six goals in their two games last week — none bigger than his overtime game-winner in the Cardinals' 4-3 win over Augsburg last Saturday.

And on Monday, Szymanski was recognized for his efforts, being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.

Szymanski kicked off his week by scoring a pair of second-half goals — marking his first collegiate multiple-goal game — in Saint Mary's 5-2 nonconference loss to high-powered Simpson.

Three days later, the Cardinal midfielder found the back of the net again — at the most opportune time — as Szymanski's goal three minutes into the first overtime period lifted Saint Mary's to a 4-3 victory over Augsburg, ending a 13-game losing streak against the Auggies.

Szymanski has now scored a goal in three of the Cardinals' last four games and is second on the team in both goals (4) and points (9).

The Cardinals (1-1-0 MIAC, 5-5-0 overall) are back in conference play on Tuesday, heading to Northfield, Minn., for a 4 p.m. showdown against St. Olaf.
