STEVENS POINT, Wis. — It was a new day, but for the Saint Mary's University swim teams, it was more of the same.

Which was good thing for Saint Mary's coach Amber Lowe.

The Cardinals, coming off five individuals qualifying for finals events during the first day of the two-day UW-Stevens Point Invitational, picked up right where they left off  — putting five more into the finals.

Brennen McClay (Shakopee, Minn.) and Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinals, with McClay qualifying 10th in the 50 freestyle (23.00), while Rades posted the 12th-fastest time in the 200 backstroke (2:17.62). McClay also sealed a spot in the 100 butterfly, stopping the clock in 59.50, while Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) earned a finals spot with a time of 5:20.33 in the 400 IM and Erica Camarato (DeForest, Wis.) delivered a finals-qualifying time of 1:21.20 in the 100 breaststroke.

In the finals, Shefchik led the charge, placing 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 5:19.06. McClay delivered a time of 23.04 to finish 17th in the 50 freestyle and added a 21st-place time of 1:00.39 in the 100 butterfly, while Camarato was 18th in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 1:20.34.

The Cardinal women's 400 freestyle relay team of Shefchik, Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.), Claire King (Red Wing, Minn.), and Dakota Becerra (Yorba Linda, Calif.) placed 19th in 4:13.16, with the 200 medley relay team of King, Beitz, Ashlyn Seifert (Austin, Texas), and Erica Camarato (DeForest, Wis.) chipping in a 23rd-place time of 2:09.49.

The Cardinals have one final meet before the season-ending MIAC Championships on Feb. 14-17, as Saint Mary's hosts Augsburg and Hamline in a pair of dual meets at the Jul Gernes Pool next Saturday.
