WINONA, Minn. — It was a weekend to remember for
Jordan Modjeski (South Lyon, Mich.).
And that memorable weekend spilled over into the start of the weekday.
Modjeski, who scored her first collegiate goal and added four assists in helping propel the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team to a pair of conference wins over St. Olaf last weekend — keeping the Cardinals' post-season playoff hopes afloat — was rewarded for her efforts on Monday, being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.
The Cardinal sophomore entered Saint Mary's two games against the Oles last weekend searching for her first points of the season — and when the dust settled Saturday afternoon, Modjeski had pushed that season point total to five.
Modjeski netted her first collegiate goal midway through the third period — capping the Cardinals' eight-goal outburst in last Friday's 8-1 win over the Oles.
But that wasn't the extent of Modjeski's offense exploits — not by a long shot.
Along with that first collegiate goal, Modjeski also assisted on three of the Cardinals' other seven goals Friday en route to her first career multiple-assist and multiple-point night, while also adding a fourth helper on the weekend in Saturday's sweep-clinching 3-1 win.
Modjeski and the Cardinals — currently sitting in sixth place, two points back of Bethel in the quest for the fifth and final MIAC post-season spot with a possible four points still available — close out the regular-season portion of their schedule this weekend, heading to St. Cloud, Minn., for a pair of games against Saint Benedict.
