WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team gave a packed house plenty to cheer about Saturday evening, as the Cardinals squared off against UW-Stout in an exhibition game at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
Â
And
Tyson Liverance (Burford, Ontario) made sure the home crowd left happy, as he scored at 1:55 of overtime, lifting the Cardinals to a 3-2 exhibition win over the Blue Devils.
Â
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Blue Devils struck first, getting a goal from Riley Enderle nine seconds into the middle frame to take a 1-0 advantage.
Â
The Cardinals answered 10 minutes later, as
Nick Kiemel (Colorado Springs, Colo.) found the back of the net on an unassisted tally.
Â
Less than six minutes later, Saint Mary's had its first lead of the game, as
Brady Lindauer (Cary, Ill.) scored on the power-play — off assists from
Matt Hutton (Carmel, Ind.) and
Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta) — to give SMU a 2-1 edge.
Â
Saint Mary's held that one-goal cushion into the third period, only to have UW-Stout net the game-tying goal five-minutes into the third period on a goal by Dylan Rallis.
Â
The Cardinals officially kick off their 2021-22 season next weekend, traveling to Lake Forest's Alumni Arena in Lake Forest, Ill., for a pair of nonconference games against the Foresters.
