• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals enter Monday’s nonconference game against Martin Luther sitting at 0-1 on the season, having dropped a 73-59, season-opening decision at UW-Stevens Point last Tuesday.
• AGAINST THE POINTERS: The Cardinals got a team-high 18 points from Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.), but it was not enough, as UW-Stevens Point erupted for 28 second-quarter points in dealing Saint Mary’s a 73-58 loss last Tuesday in Stevens Point, Wis.
• ROAD WARRIORS: Monday’s game at Martin Luther is the second of three straight road games for the Cardinals, who will also face Macalester on the road on Saturday, before kicking off the home portion of its scheduled with a 7 p.m. match against Hamline on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) poured in a team-high 18 points in last Tuesday’s season-opening loss to UW-Stevens Point. Paulson was one of three Cardinals to finish in double figures against the Pointers, being joined by Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.), who chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
• HITTING THE BOARDS: Paulson, Goettelman, and Teagan Hansch (Brownton, Minn.) all shared the team lead with five rebounds against UW-Stevens Point last Tuesday. As a team, the Cardinals finished with 36 rebounds vs. UW-SP — including 31 on the defensive end.
• FROM DOWNTOWN: The Cardinals, who knocked down 25 3-pointers in its five games during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, including nine against Hamline on Feb. 2, 2021 — hit three treys against the Pointers last Tuesday.
• CARDINAL DEBUTS: Six of the 11 Cardinals who took the court last Tuesday against UW-Stevens Point were making their first collegiate appearances in a Saint Mary’s uniform. Goettelman led the “newcomers” charge, tossing in 10 points.
• DOUBLING UP: Paulson is the only player on the Cardinal roster to own a double-double in her collegiate career, recording her first against Hamline on Feb. 27, scoring 13 points and adding a career-high 11 rebounds.
• KNOCKING ’EM DOWN: Paulson went 8-for-9 from the free throw line against Bethel on Feb. 6, 2021. The eight made free throws and nine attempts were both career-highs.
• AS A TEAM: The Cardinals shot 40.4 percent from the field (19-for-47), with three 3-pointers, and were 17 of 30 (56.7 percent) from the free throw line against UW-Stevens Point last Tuesday.
