• 1 + 1 + 1: The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team’s three goals in last Tuesday’s 3-3 tie against Lawrence came from three different players — Kasyn Kruse (Luverne, Minn.), Laudon Poellinger (La Crescent, Minn.), and Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.). Saint Mary’s has yet to have a player score more than one goal in a game this season.
• 2: Two of Saint Mary’s three games that were played last Tuesday went into overtime. The Cardinals women’s basketball team dropped a 75-71 overtime decision to Hamline, while the SMU men’s hockey team battled Lawrence to a 3-3 draw in their nonconference contest.
• 3: The Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 3-3 tie against Lawrence last Tuesday was its second straight overtime game — and its third OT contest this season. SMU dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Saint John’s on Nov. 20, while falling 4-3 in OT to Lake Forest in its season-opener on Nov. Oct. 29.
• 5: The Cardinal men’s basketball team’s first two conference games of the season have been decided by a combined five points. SMU opened MIAC play with a two-point, 63-61 win over Macalester on Nov. 20, before dropping a three-point, 67-63 decision to Hamline three days later.
• 5 x 3: Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Wis.) scored a career-high 15 points — knocking down five 3-pointers — in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 67-64 MIAC loss at Hamline last Tuesday.
• 8: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team drained a season-high eight 3-pointers in last Tuesday’s 67-64 loss to Hamline. The Cardinals have now drained 20 3-pointers through their first three games.
• 11: Macey Petron (Royalton, Minn.) scored a career-high in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s nonconference loss to Luther last Sunday. Petron is the fifth SMU player to record a career-high of 10 or more points this season.
• 13: Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) netted a career-high 13 points in the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team’s 75-71 overtime loss to Hamline last Tuesday.
• 24 + 12: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored 24 points and added 12 rebounds en route to her first double-double of the season in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 75-71 overtime loss to Hamline last Tuesday. Paulson posted her first collegiate double-double — also against Hamline — with 13 points and 11 rebounds on Feb. 27, 2021.
• 34: Matt Sankner (Pennington, N.J.) posted 34 saves in the SMU men’s hockey team’s 3-3 overtime tie against Lawrence last Tuesday. The 34 saves were one shy of his career-best and marked the third time this season the freshman has stopped 30 or more shots in a game.
• 38-32: The Cardinal men’s and women’s basketball teams each trailed Hamline by identical 38-32 counts at the half of their respective MIAC games last Tuesday.
