WINONA, Minn. — Through two-plus seasons as a member of the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team, Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) has put on more than his fair share of memorable offensive performances.

But none compared to the shooting clinic the Cardinal junior put on Saturday evening against St. Scholastica.

Anthony scored a game- and career-high 35 points — including the game-winning basket with four seconds remaining in regulation — lifting the Cardinals to a 68-66 MIAC victory over the Saints.

It was a performance that turned more than a few heads — and earned Anthony MIAC Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Anthony's Herculean effort on Saturday put an exclamation point on a remarkable week for the sharp-shooting guard, who opened the week scoring 23 points in Saint Mary's 73-63 loss to Saint John's last Wednesday.

All told, Anthony averaged 29.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg in the Cardinals' two conference games last week. He shot 55.6 percent from the field, knocking down 25 of 45 field goal attempts — including four 3-pointers — and was 4 of 12 from the free throw line. At one point in the second half, Anthony scored 10 consecutive points for the Cardinals, giving SMU a 64-55 lead. The junior would then break a 66-66 time with a layup with four seconds remaining to secure the victory.

Along with his career-high 35 points against the Saints, Anthony also posted 10 rebounds en route to his first double-double of the season and fifth of his collegiate career.

For the season, Anthony leads the Cardinals — and the entire MIAC — in scoring, averaging 24.0 ppg, while also boasting a team-best 25 rebounds (8.3 rpg). He has also dished out nine assists and three steals, while averaging 32.7 minutes-per-game.
