SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT

Monday's game against Hamline is the second of back-to-back road games for the Cardinals. … Eli Cave (St. Paul, Minn.) scored a game-high 27 points in the Cardinals' season-opening 87-64 loss at Saint John's last Friday. … Cave — an All-MIAC First-Team selection a year ago — has now scored 20 or more points 24 times in his four-year collegiate career. … Cave, who scored 10 or more points in all 27 games last season, has finished in double figures in 52 of a possible 53 games over the past three seasons. … With his 27 points, Cave pushed his career point total to 1,157 career points, five back of Mike Miller '87 for 16th all-time. … Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 20 points against the Johnnies last Friday. It was the second straight game in which Anthony has netted 20 or more points — Anthony poured in 28 points in Saint Mary's season-ending loss to St. Thomas in the MIAC Tournament a year ago. … Anthony has now eclipsed the 20-point barrier four times in his two years at Saint Mary's. … The Cardinals have now had two players score 20 or more points in the same game four times in the last two seasons — including three games in which Cave and Anthony each topped the 20-point mark. … Saint Mary's made its first MIAC Tournament appearance since 1985 a year ago, collecting the program's first postseason victory with its 72-59 quarterfinal win over Bethel on Feb. 25. … Saint Mary's closed out the year with a 14-13 overall record. The 14 wins are the most overall wins since going 15-10 during the 1984-85 campaign. … Saint Mary's closed out conference play with a 10-10 mark, the most conference wins since going 11-9 during the 1999-2000 season. … Cave heads into Monday's game at Hamline the owner of seven collegiate double-doubles, while Anthony has two. … Saint Mary's, which finished with 10 or more 3-pointers in a game nine times last season — including equaling the program's single-game school record with 14 3-pointers against Hamline on Jan. 11 — finished 6 of 23 from beyond the arc against Saint John's last Friday. … With their 87-64 loss to Saint John's last Friday, the Cardinals had their six-game, season-opening winning streak snapped.

HAMLINE PIPERS SCOUTING REPORT

Hamline kicked off their pandemic-shortened season with a 55-38 victory over Bethel last Saturday. … The Pipers enter their season-opening against Saint Mary's on the heels of a 6-19 season a year ago, including a 4-16 mark in conference play. … Monday's game against Saint Mary's is the first of three straight home games for the Pipers, who finished 2-10 at Hutton Arena a year ago. … Jake Larson and Michael Dillon led a trio of Pipers in double figures against Bethel last Saturday, scoring 13 points each, while Luke Siwek chipped in 12 points. … Hamline boasted a pair of players — Siwek (15.4 ppg) and Dillon (14.1) — who closed out the 2019-20 season averaging in double figures in scoring. … Dillon was also the Pipers' rebounding leading, hauling in 163 boards (6.8 rpg). … Trey Prince dished out a team-best 73 assists a year ago, with Dillon chipping in a team-high 30 steals. … As a team, the Pipers shot 42.3 percent from the field (622-for-1470) last season, while hitting on 281 of 398 free throws (70.5). … The Pipers knocked down 194 3-pointers a year ago, led by Dillon with 53), Siwek with 36, and Conner Krenos with 30. … Hamline scored 80 or more points seven times last season, including a season-high 88 in beating St. Olaf 88-84 in overtime on Jan. 29, 2020. … Hamline played three overtime games in 2019-20, beating St. Olaf (88-84), while losing to both St. Thomas (92-83) and Gustavus (88-81).
