  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals' game against St. Thomas last Sunday was their first game since Feb. 6, when they dropped an 81-67 decision at Bethel. The Cardinals had kicked off their season on a winning note, beating Hamline 78-55 on Feb. 2. … Five of Saint Mary's last six victories — including their 78-55 win over Hamline this season — have come on their home court. … Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) and Claire Patterson (Marine, Minn.) each scored 12 points to pace the Cardinals' offensive attack in Sunday's 80-51 loss to St. Thomas. … Paulson has now led or shared the team lead in scoring in all three of Saint Mary's games this season. … Paulson equaled her single-game career high, scoring 27 points in the Cardinals' 81-67 loss to Bethel on Feb. 6. … Saint Mary's put four players in double figures against Hamline on Feb. 2. Along with Paulson's team-high 17 points, Patterson added 15, and Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Maggie Robertson (Orland Park, Ill.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Saint Mary's put four players in double figures in the same game twice a year ago. … Paulson enters Wednesday's game against Gustavus averaging 18.7 ppg, while Patterson is also averaging in double figures at 11.7 ppg. … Robertson is the team's rebounding leader with 17 (5.7 rpg), with Hallie Schmeling (Onalaska, Wis.) and Patterson sharing the team lead in assists with five, one more than Robertson and Isabel Bettag (Maple Park, Ill.). … Bettag leads the team in steals with 14. … As a team, the Cardinals are shooting 36.7 percent from the field (65-for-177) and 70.0 percent from the free throw line (49-for-70). … The Cardinals, who poured in 160 3-pointers last season, have knocked down 17 treys in three games this season — including nine against Hamline on Feb. 2. … Paulson has accounted for nine of the Cardinals' 17 3-pointers this season. … Saint Mary's 78 points against Hamline on Feb. 2 were just two points shy of its season-high 80-point effort from a year ago. … The Cardinals have scored 70 or more points in each of their last five wins. … The Cardinals played a single-season, program-record four overtime games a year ago, including three that were decided by two points. … The Cardinals' 79-77 loss to St. Catherine on Dec. 4 was its first double-overtime game since beating Bethel 73-69 on Jan. 24, 2009.

The Gusties enter Wednesday's road game at Saint Mary's having won each of its first two games to open the season — beating Augsburg 92-74 and Saint Benedict 76-66. … Caitlin Rorman — the reigning MIAC and D3hoops.com West Region Rookie of the Year — scored a game-high 19 points against Saint Benedict last Sunday, while Paige Richert chipped in a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. … GAC had 14 players score at least one point in last Sunday's win over Saint Benedict. … Gustavus enters Wednesday's game at Saint Mary's boasting three players who are averaging in double figures in scoring — Rorman (22.0 ppg), Richert (14.0 ppg), and Marisa Gustafson (12.5 ppg). … Richert also leads the Gusties in rebounding with 19 (9.5 rpg), seven more than Gustafson (12, 6.0 rpg). … Ava Gonsorowski has dished out a team-best 11 assists , while Gustafson leads the team with four steals. … as a team, GAC is shooting 45.9 percent from the field (67-for-146) and 57.5 percent from the free throw line (23-for-40). … The Gusties have knocked down 11 3-points through two games, led by Gustafson and Maddy Rice with three each. … The Gusties have averaging 84.0 ppg, while their opponents are scoring at a 70.0 ppg clip. … Gustavus is coming off an 18-9 season a year ago that including a 13-9 showing in conference play — good enough for fourth place, and a berth in the MIAC Tournament. Gustavus — which has qualified for the MIAC Tournament every year since the inception of the six-team format in 2000-01 — fell to ninth-ranked Bethel 70-62 in the tournament semifinals.
