SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT

Wednesday's game against Gustavus is the first of back-to-back home games for the Cardinals, who went 7-5 on their home court a year ago. … The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season on Monday, beating Hamline 77-66. … Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) picked up his first double-double of the season — and third of his collegiate career — with 25 points and 10 rebounds against Hamline on Monday. … Anthony's 25 points were just four shy of his career high. … Anthony has now scored 20 or more points in three straight games — netting 20 vs. Saint John's on Jan. 29 and tallying 28 in the MIAC Tournament semifinal against St. Thomas a year ago — and four times in his two-year collegiate career. … Eli Cave (St. Paul, Minn.) chipped in 22 points against the Pipers. … The Cardinals have now had two players score 20 or more points in each of their two games this season — Cave tossed in 27 points and Anthony finished with 20 points against Saint John's on Jan. 29. … Cave has now scored in double figures in 29 straight games — and in 53 of 54 games over the past three seasons — and has netted 20 or more points 26 times in his collegiate career. … With his 22 points against Hamline on Monday, Cave pushed his career point total to 1,179 career points, ranking the senior 14th all-time. Next up on the career list, Ryan Rankin '00 (1,232). … Cave heads into Wednesday's home opener against Gustavus averaging a team-best 24.5 ppg, with Anthony close behind at 22.5 ppg. … Anthony has amassed a team-leading 15 rebounds (7.5 rpg) through two games, while also leading the Cardinals in assists (7) and steals (5). … Saint Mary's, which finished with 10 or more 3-pointers in a game nine times last season, knocked down 11 treys against Hamline on Monday, led by Cave with five and Anthony with four. … As a team, Saint Mary's his shooting 48.3 percent from the field (57-for-118) — including 17-for-48 from behind the arc — and are 10 of 21 (47.6 percent) from the free throw line. … With their 87-64 loss to Saint John's on Jan. 29, the Cardinals had their six-game, season-opening winning streak snapped. … Saint Mary's made its first MIAC Tournament appearance since 1985 a year ago, collecting the program's first postseason victory with its 72-59 quarterfinal win over Bethel on Feb. 25. … Saint Mary's 14 wins a year ago were the most overall wins since going 15-10 during the 1984-85 campaign, while their 10 MIAC victories were the most since going 11-9 during the 1999-2000 season.

GUSTAVUS GUSTIES SCOUTING REPORT

The Gusties, who kick off their pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season on Wednesday at Saint Mary's, are coming off an 8-17 season a year ago — including an 8-12 showing in conference play. … Kaleb Feahn closed out 2019-20 as the team's scoring leader, boasting a 13.6 ppg scoring average, while Logan Rezac also ended the year averaging in double figures at 12.0 ppg. … Gustavus boasted four players — Rezac (164, 6.6 rpg), Jake Guse (138, 5.8 rpg), Nolan Malo (103, 4.1 rpg), and C.J. Woda (101, 4.6 rpg) — who finished last season with 100 or more rebounds. … Rezac compiled a team-high 86 assists, 10 more than Isaac Douglas, and Douglas owned a team-high 20 steals. … Guse led the Gusties with a whopping 51 blocks. … As a team, the Gusties shot 44.9 percent from the field (685-for-1526) and were 264-for-372 (71.0 percent) from the free throw line. … GAC poured in 199 3-pointers a year ago, led by Douglas with 50 and Feahn with 36. … Gustavus scored 80 or more points six times last season — including three games with 90 or more points. GAC lost to Pomona-Pitzer 110-91, while beating Augsburg 92-88 and Carleton 93-82.
