SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT

The Cardinals kicked off their season on a winning note, putting four players in double figures in beating Hamline 78-55 on Tuesday. … With Tuesday's win, the Cardinals have now won three of their last four and four of their last six. … Five of Saint Mary's last six victories have come on their home court. … Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored a team-high 17 points in Tuesday's opening win over Hamline, while Claire Patterson (Marine, Minn.) added 15, and Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Maggie Robertson (Orland Park, Ill.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Saint Mary's put four players in double figures in the same game twice a year ago. … Saint Mary's shot 41.8 percent from the field (28-for-67) against Hamline Tuesday, while hitting on 13 of 19 free throws (68.4 percent). … The Cardinals, who poured in 160 3-pointers last season, knocked down nine treys against the Pipers Tuesday. … Saint Mary's 78 points against Hamline Tuesday were just two points shy of its season-high 80-point effort from a year ago. … The Cardinals have scored 70 or more points in each of their last five wins. … The Cardinals played a single-season, program-record four overtime games a year ago, including three that were decided by two points. Along with their 75-66 win over Gustavus on Feb. 19, the Cardinals beat Macalester 70-68 in OT on Dec. 11, while falling to St. Catherine 79-77 in double overtime on Dec. 4, and losing to Hamline 82-80 on Jan. 11. … The Cardinals' 79-77 loss to St. Catherine on Dec. 4 was its first double-overtime game since beating Bethel 73-69 on Jan. 24, 2009.

BETHEL ROYALS SCOUTING REPORT

Saturday's game against Saint Mary's is the home-opener for the Royals, who owned a near-perfect 13-1 record on their home court a year ago. … The Royals dropped their season-opener on Wednesday, falling to St. Thomas 69-66. Elizabeth Schwarz scored a team-high 20 points and Makenna Pearson chipped in 10 for BU vs. the Tommies. … Bethel enters Saturday's conference-opener against Saint Mary's on the heels of an historic 2019-20 season that saw the Royals capture the MIAC regular-season and post-season titles. … MIAC Tournament champions for the first time in program history, Bethel posted a program-record 26 wins, finishing the year 26-2 — including 19-1 in conference play. … Bethel, which climbed as high as No. 5 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, closed out the year ranked No. 12. … Bethel had its program-record 20-game winning streak snapped in the team's second meeting with Saint Mary's on Feb. 8, 2020. … Bethel, which scored a program-record 2,087 points a year ago, were led in scoring by graduated senior Taite Anderson, who averaged 20.5 ppg. Anderson was the only Royal to average in double figures in scoring in 2019-20. … Anderson also led the team in rebounding with 189 boards (7.0 rpg), while Schwarz (129, 4.8 rpg) and Haylee Barker (113, 4.2 rpg) also owned more than 100 rebounds a year ago. … Barker dished out a team-best 105 assists a year ago and Bella Williams delivered a team-leading 115 steals. … Bethel shot 46.0 percent from the field last season (765-for-1654) and drained 180 3-pointers. … Bethel netted 70 or more points in 19 of its 28 points last season, including seven games of 80 or more points. … BU scored a season-high 85 points in a game twice a year ago — beating UW-River Falls 85-52 and Macalester 85-45.
