• 2 x 2: Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta) and Tommy Stang (Mendota Heights, Minn.) each picked up two assists in the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 3-1 win over Concordia last Saturday.
• 3-0: The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team scored three second-period goals in beating Concordia 3-1 last Saturday, pushing their season-opening winning streak to three straight. It’s the first time SMU has opened the season with three straight wins since the 2002-03 season.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team put four players in double figures in its season-opening 78-55 win over Hamline last Tuesday. Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) led the way with 17 points, followed by Claire Patterson (Marine, Minn.) with 15, Jada Biermeier (Eau Claire, Wis.) with 11, and Maggie Robertson (Orland Park, Ill.) with 10.
• 4:45: Avrey Simonson (Waupaca, Wis.) netted the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s first goal of the season, scoring at 4:45 of the second period in last Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to St. Scholastica.
• 9: The Cardinal women’s basketball team drained nine 3-pointers in their season-opening 78-55 win over Hamline last Tuesday, led by Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) with four.
• 10+ x 3: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team put three players in double figures in last Wednesday’s 67-45 win over Gustavus. Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) scored 26 points, and Eli Cave (St. Paul, Minn.) and Kareem Anthony-Bello (Chicago, Ill.) added 15 each.
• 11: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team, which finished with 10 or more 3-pointers in a game nine times a year ago, knocked down 11 treys in last Monday’s 77-66 win over Hamline.
• 17 + 20: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) and Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) split time in goal in the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s season-opener against St. Scholastica last Wednesday. Ziakas played the first 30:37, making 17 saves, while Keeley stopped 20 shots in the final 29:23.
• 25 + 10 = 1: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) picked up his first double-double of the season in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 77-66 win over Hamline last Tuesday, scoring 25 points and added 10 rebounds.
• 20 x 2 x 2: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 25 points and Eli Cave (St. Paul, Minn.) added 22 in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 77-66 win over Hamline last Monday. It marked the second time in as many games this season that the Cardinals have had two players score 20 or more points in the same game.
• 27: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) equaled her single-game career high, scoring 27 points in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 81-67 loss to Bethel last Saturday. Paulson has been the Cardinals’ leading scorer in both games this season, having tossed in a team-best 17 points against Hamline four days earlier.
• 33: Connor Close (Des Moines, Iowa) stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced in his first collegiate start in goal for the Cardinal men’s hockey team last Tuesday in a 5-4 win over Bethel.
• 35: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) stopped all 35 shots she faced in the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s 0-0 overtime tie at Concordia last Saturday en route to her second collegiate shutout. Ziakas has now stopped all 52 shots she’s faced her 95:37 between the pipes this season.
• 341: When the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team took to the ice last Wednesday, it marked the first time in 341 days since the Cardinals had last stepped on the ice in competition.
• 350: The Cardinal women’s basketball team’s game against Hamline last Saturday was their first competition in 350 days — dating back to their 2019-20 regular-season finale against St. Thomas on Feb. 22, 2020.
