  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals had their season-opening four-game winning streak snapped last Saturday, as St. Thomas scored four unanswered goals in beating Saint Mary's 4-2. … Saturday's game against St. Thomas marked the final time that Saint Mary's and St. Thomas will face each other in Winona. … The Cardinals' 4-0-0 start to the season marked the first time since 1972-73 that SMU opened with four straight wins. The 1972-73 team opened the season with 11 straight wins. … Thomas Magnavite (Chicago, Ill.) and Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta) scored Saint Mary's two goals in Saturday's 4-2 loss to St. Thomas. … Andrew Froese (Traverse City, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick — including scoring the game-winner in overtime — in last Tuesday's 5-4 win over Gustavus. … Froese's hat trick was the first by a Cardinal since 2015-16, when Bob Kinne, Jared Johnson, and Jay Heinle all recorded three-goal games. … Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta picked up single-game career-high three assists against Gustavus last Tuesday. Stoynich's three points were also a single-game career-best. … With Froese's hat trick against Gustavus, the Cardinals have now had a multiple-goal scorer twice this season — Bud Winter (St. Louis, Mo.) netted two goals against Concordia on Feb. 6. … Winter and Froese are two of three Cardinals to score their first collegiate goals this season, being joined by Trevor Schroeder (Des Moines, Iowa). … Froese enters Tuesday's game against St. Scholastica leading the team in goals with four, one more than Winter, and two in front of both Stoynich and Tommy Stang (Mendota Heights, Minn.). … Stoynich is also the team-leader in both assists (5) and points (7). … Froese, Winter, Sam Hanson (Eau Claire, Wis.), and Jack Hatton (Naperville, Ill.) own Saint Mary's four game-winning goals. … Al Rogers (North Haven, Conn.) has started five of the Cardinals' six games in goal, owning a 3.03 goals-against-average and .906 save percentage. … Rogers made a season-high 35 saves in Saturday's 4-2 loss to St. Thomas. Rogers has now stopped 30 or more shots in a game six times in his collegiate career. … Connor Close (Des Moines, Iowa) stopped 33 Bethel shots in his first collegiate start in goal for the Cardinals on Feb. 2. … Nine of the Cardinals' 19 goals this season have been scored in the second period. SMU has netted just two first-period goals through five games. … Saint Mary's has scored the game's first goal in four of its five contests this season. … With their 5-4 overtime win over Gustavus last Tuesday, Saint Mary's has played 21 games decided by one goal or less — including 12 that have gone into overtime — over the last three seasons.
  ST. SCHOLASTICA SAINTS SCOUTING REPORT
The Saints are coming off a split with Marian in their final NCHA series, falling to the Sabres 3-2 in the opener, before rebounding with a 5-1 victory in the rematch. … With Saturday's 5-1 win over Marian, CSS has now won four of its last five games — outscoring its opponents 29-12 in that five-game span. … Nate Pionk and Brent Jones scored the Saints' two goals in Friday's 3-2 loss to Marian, while Arkhip Ledenkov scored twice, and Jones, Tyler Hinterser, and Jordan Fralich accounted for the other three in Saturday's 5-1 win. … With his two goals against Marian last Saturday, Arkhip Lendenkov pushed his team-leading total to eight, three more than Hinterser and Carson Rose. … Fillmon Ledenkov is the Saints' leader in assists with 11, one more than Michael Talbot, who leads the team with 13 points. … Talbot is one of four Saints with 10 or more points through 11 games, being joined by Arkhip Lendenkov (12), Fillmon Ledenkov (12), and Hinterser (10). … CSS's five game-winning goals this season have come from five different players — Arkhip Ledenkov, Rose, Sam Fuss, Jones, and Boe Bjorge. … Nick Trenciansky and Jack Bostedt have shared the goaltending duites this season, with Trenciansky compiling a 3.36 goals-against-average and .895 save percentage in eight appearances, with Bostedt chipping in a 3.63 GAA and .894 save percentage in four appearances. … St. Scholastica has scored first in six of its 11 games, going 4-2-0. The Saints are 1-4-0 when their opponent scores first. … CSS is unbeaten when leading after two periods (4-0-0), but are winless (0-6-0) when trailing heading into the game's final 20 minutes. … St. Scholastica scored a season-high 12 goals in beating Finlandia 12-4 on Feb. 19. It was the highest offensive output since the Saints scored 13 against Northland on Jan. 12, 2010. … The 2020-21 season marks the final year in the NCHA for the Saints, who will join Saint Mary's and the rest of the MIAC beginning with the 2021-22 campaign.
