WINONA, Minn. — With just nine matches on the schedule this spring, Saint Mary's University senior
Linnaea Wallis (Dresser, Wis.) is determined to make the most of each and every match.
Â
Which is good news for the Cardinal volleyball team — and bad news for the Cardinals' opponents.
Â
Wallis has been virtually unstoppable all season long — none more so than last week, when the hard-hitting outside delivered 49 kills and 40 digs in helping the Cardinals to back-to-back wins over Hamline (3-1) and Gustavus (3-2).
Â
And Wallis' stellar performance did not go unnoticed, as she was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
Wallis kicked off her week in remarkable fashion, recording a career-high 30 killsm while hitting .413 and adding 14 digs in SMU's win over the Pipers. Wallis' 30 kills were not only a career-best, but fell just one kills short of the program record of 31, set by Brandi Blattner against Bethel during the 2016 season.
Â
Three days later, Wallis was back on the court — and back in the lead role in the Cardinal offense — hammering out 19 kills and recording a career-high 26 digs in Saint Mary's 3-2 win over Gustavus.
Â
The 30-kill/14-dig and 19-kill/26-dig double-doubles were the fourth and fifth straight double-doubles for Wallis.
Â
Wallis and the Cardinals will put their five-match winning streak on the line Monday night, as Saint Mary's welcomes Saint Benedict to the Saint Mary's Gym for a 7 p.m. showdown.
