  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
• WIN NO. 1: The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season last Saturday, getting a pair of penalty kick goals by Eli Szymanski (La Crosse, Wis.) en route to a 3-1 win over Edgewood.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Monday's game against Martin Luther is the second of three straight home games for the Cardinals — who beat Edgewood last Saturday in their home opener and host Crown on Wednesday. The Cardinals played three of their five games during the pandemic-shortened, fall-to-spring season a year ago on their home turf, going 1-2-0. SMU finished 1-0-1 away from Ochrymowycz Field.
• PERFECTION: The Cardinals enter Monday's showdown vs. Martin Luther unbeaten against the Knights all-time. In fact, the Cardinals are not only a perfect 5-0-0 against MLC, but they have yet to surrender a goal — outscoring the Knights 16-0.
• CAREER FIRST: Jack Hurley (Homewood, Ill.) scored his first collegiate goal in last Saturday's 3-1 win over Edgewood.
• CAREER FIRST, II: Jacob Wing (Verona, Wis.) earned his first career win — in his first collegiate start — in the Cardinals' 3-1 win over Edgewood last Saturday. Wing made two saves, with the lone goal coming on a penalty kick.
• KING OF THE PK: Szymanski scored two of Saint Mary's three goals in last Saturday's win over Edgewood — both coming on penalty kicks. Szymanski has now scored Saint Mary's last six PK goals. With the two goals vs. Edgewood, Szymanski pushed his career total 16, ranking the senior ninth all-time.
• LENDING A HELPING HAND: R.J. Vazquez (Antioch, Ill.) picked an assist on Hurley's first-half goal against Edgewood last Saturday. It was his second career assist.
 • BETWEEN THE PIPES: Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) matched his career-high with seven saves in last Wednesday's 3-0 loss to the University of Dubuque. Sessler also stopped seven shots in his first collegiate start against St. Thomas on April 8, 2021.…  Sessler stopped all four Saint John's shots on April 21, 2021 en route to his first collegiate shutout. … Sessler locked up his first win as a Cardinal with a four-save effort in SMU's 2-1 win over Augsburg on April 11, 2021.
• TAKING THE SHOT: Szymanski and Cerim Palislamovic (Jacksonville, Fla.) share the team lead in shots attempted with four and shots on goal with three.
• SECOND HALF DOMINATION: The Cardinals have not allowed a second-half goal and hold an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal after the halftime intermission.
• A YEAR AGO: The Cardinals went 1-0-1 in their final two games of the 2021 season — both against Saint John's — en route to a 2-2-1 finish.
 MARTIN LUTHER KNIGHTS SCOUTING REPORT
• ROUGH START: The Knights were no match for Bethany Lutheran in the teams' season opener last Wednesday, as BLU erupted for seven goals in dealing the Knights a 7-1 nonconference setback.
• HIT THE ROAD: Monday's game against Saint Mary's is the first of back-to-back road games for the Knights, who finished 2-1-1 on the road during last year's eight-game season.
• STREAK SNAPPED: Martin Luther had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped with last Wednesday's 7-1 loss to Bethany Lutheran. MLC closed out last season going 3-0-1 in its final four games.
• GOAL NO. 1: Isaias Santos netted the Knights' lone goal against Bethany Lutheran last Wednesday, scoring in the game's 28th minute.
• BETWEEN THE PIPES: Martin Luther used two goalies against Bethany Lutheran in last Wednesday's season-opening 7-1 loss. Michael Friesenegger finished with three saves on eight shots in 54 minutes of work, while Adam Rosenbaum stopped three of the five shots he faced over the game's final 36 minutes.
• A YEAR AGO: The Knights closed out the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with a 3-3-2 mark. After opening with back-to-back losses to UW-Superior and St. Scholastica —being outscored 11-0 in the process — MLC went 3-1-2 in its final six games.
