WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team was good Friday evening in its season-opening nonconference win over Northwestern.
They were even better a day later against Martin Luther.
And the end result … a second-straight 9-0 victory.
The Cardinals dropped just 10 games — including posting 8-0 victories in all three doubles matches — in rolling to a 9-0 nonconference win over the Knights at the Winona Tennis Center.
The SMU doubles teams of
Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.)/
Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.),
Maggie Frye (Colorado Springs, Colo.)/
Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.)/
Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) all rolled to 8-0 victories to give the Cardinals the early 3-0 advantage.
And as dominant as they were in doubles play, the Cardinals were equally as dominate in singles, getting straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins from Morgan and
Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), while Peterson added a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Henderson and
Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) were 6-1, 6-1 victors. Frye rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
The Cardinals (2-0 overall) are now off until Feb. 13, when they kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 1:30 p.m. showdown with perennial power Gustavus at the Winona Tennis Center.
