SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into Tuesday's conference showdown against Macalester sitting at 1-2 overall, having defeated Crown 81-69, while falling to Augustana (Ill.) 81-73 and Gustavus 74-71.
• LAST TIME OUT: Gustavus scored the game's final five points, erasing a late, two-point Saint Mary's lead and lifting the Gusties to a 74-71 win over SMU in the teams' conference opener last Saturday at Gus Young Court in St. Peter, Minn.
• HOME ON THE ROAD: With their 81-69 win over Crown on Nov. 8, six of the Cardinals' last nine wins have come on the road. Saint Mary's finished 5-8 away from the Saint Mary's Gym a year ago.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) led the Cardinals in scoring for the third straight game with 19 points against Gustavus last Saturday. … Anthony, who has scored 10 or more points 40 times in his four-year collegiate career, is averaging 21.3 ppg through three games, and is shooting 52.3 percent from the field (23-for-44). … Breyton Buysman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) is averaging 12.7 ppg and Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) is third on the team with an 11.0 ppg scoring average.
• GREATER THAN 20: Anthony's 30-point effort against Crown on Nov. 8 marked the 13th time the senior has scored 20 or more points in a game — and was just five off his single-game career-high 35-point showing against St. Scholastica on Dec. 4, 2021.
• HITTING DOUBLE DIGITS: Saint Mary's has put at least three players in double figures in two of its first three games. Anthony (30), Sawyer (17), and Buysman (12) hit double figures against Crown on Nov. 8, while Anthony (15), Buysman (13), Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Wis. / 12), and Cameron Mallory (Joliet, Ill. / 11) finished in double figures vs. Augustana (Ill.) four days later.
• DOUBLING UP: Anthony has posted double-doubles in each of SMU's first three games this season. Along with his 30 points, Anthony also delivered 11 rebounds against Crown on Nov. 8, before posting 15 points and 10 boards vs. Augustana (Ill.) last Saturday. The senior collected his first points-assist double-double against Gustavus on Nov. 19, scoring 19 points and adding a career-high 10 assists. Anthony was just two rebounds short of his first collegiate triple-double vs. the Gusties. … Anthony now owns 13 double-doubles in his four-year collegiate career.
• ON THE GLASS: Anthony leads the team with 40 rebounds with 30 (10.0 rpg), while Sawyer is second with 16 (6.3 rpg) — with 15 of his 16 coming on the defensive end. … SMU has amassed 86 rebounds in three games — including 68 defensive boards.
• GOING DEEP: Saint Mary's knocked down a season-high eight 3-pointers against Augustana (Ill.) on Nov. 12 and have now drained 20 treys in three games. … Ziegler — who boasted a team-leading 37 3-pointers a year ago — leads the way for SMU with eight treys, followed by Sawyer with five and Buysman with four. … The Cardinals — who recorded 10 or more 3-pointers in a game five times a year ago and closed out the 2021-22 season with 178 3-pointers — are shooting 40.0 from beyond the arc (14-for-35).
• LENDING A HAND: The Cardinals recorded a season-high 19 assists against Gustavus last Saturday — including a career-high 10 from Anthony. The 10 assists by Anthony were the most by a Cardinal since Evan Pederson put together an 11-assist showing against Macalester on Feb. 14, 2014. … Anthony leads SMU with 20 assists, followed by Sawyer with 11. … SMU's 19-assist effort against the Gusties were the most in a game since the Cardinals dished out 20 helpers against Augsburg on Feb. 2, 2021
• BIG SECOND HALF: The Cardinals scored 40 or more points in the second half of each of their first two games — netting 42 against Crown on Nov. 8 and 40 vs. Augustana (Ill.) last Saturday. SMU has netted 40 or more points in a half seven times over the last two seasons — with six of those seven 40+ efforts coming in the second half. Last season, Saint Mary's posted a season-high 47-point half against Bethel on Feb. 5, 2022.
• AS A TEAM: The Cardinals are shooting 46.1 percent from the field (83-for-180), with 20 3-pointers, and are 39-for-52 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line. … Saint Mary's 81 points against Crown on Nov. 8 were just two shy of its season-high 83-point effort against UW-Superior from a year ago. … The winner of each of SMU's first two games scored 81 points — the Cardinals defeated Crown 81-69 and lost to Augustana (Ill.) 81-73.

MACALESTER SCOTS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: Macalester enters heads to Saint Mary's for Tuesday's conference matchup riding a season-opening four-game winning streak, including a 72-53 win over Augsburg in its conference-opener last Saturday.
• LAST TIME OUT: Macalester held Augsburg to just 21 first-half points in building a commanding 14-point halftime lead, as the Scots kicked off conference play with a convincing 72-53 victory last Saturday at Leonard Center in St. Paul, Minn.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Tuesday's game against Saint Mary's is the first of three straight road games for the Scots, who started the season with four consecutive home games — beating Martin Luther (91-53), Wartburg (79-71 OT), North Central (73-70), and Augsburg (72-53).
• NAILBITERS & BLOWOUTS: Two of Macalester's four games have been decided by eight points or less, while the Scots have won the other two by at least 19 points.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Macalester boasts three players who are averaging in double figures through four games, led by Caleb Williams, who owns a 21.5 ppg scoring average. Coby Gold (17.0 ppg) and Eric Wentz (10.3 ppg) are also averaging 10 or more points this season. … Williams has scored at least 16 points in all four games — including a season-high 36-point effort against Wartburg on Nov. 11. … Gold has also netted 10 or more points in all four Scots' contests, highlighted by a 20-opint gamge against North Central on Nov. 15.
• CLEANING THE GLASS: The Scots have three players who have hauled in 20 or more rebounds this season, led by Badou Ba with 39 (9.8 rpg). Williams and Noah Shannon are tied for second on the team with 24 boards (6.0 rpg). … Badou delivered a season-high 13-rebound effort against Augsburg last Saturday. It was the second time he has recorded 10 or more boards, adding an 11-rebound effort against Wartburg on Nov. 11.
• RAINING IN 3s: Macalester has poured in 42 3-pointers in four games and has gotten at least one trey from nine different players. Gold leads the bomb brigade with 12 3s, followed by Williams with nine and Eric Wentz with six. … The Scots made a season-high 17 3-pointers in their 91-53 win over Martin Luther on Nov. 8.
• LENDING A HAND: Along with his 21.5 ppg scoring average, Williams also leads the Scots with 16 assists, 12 more than Gold. … As a team, Macalester has dished out 63 assists, and 12 of the 13 Scots have recorded at least one helper.
• AS A TEAM: Macalester is shooting 43.7 percent from the field (121-for-277) with 43 3-pointers and has gone 31-for-49 (83.3 %) from the free throw line. … The Scots are averaging 78.7 ppg, while their opponents are scoring at a 61.7 ppg clip. … Macalester has scored 70 or more points in all four games this season, including a season-high 91-point effort in drubbing Martin Luther 91-53 on Nov. 8. … With their victory over Martin Luther on Nov. 8, Macalester has now won its season-opener in each of the last four seasons.
