WINONA, Minn. — It was a night to remember for the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team last Wednesday, as the Cardinals knocked off seventh-ranked UW-La Crosse 73-66 in a nonconference matchup.
Â
And providing the most lethal blows in slaying the nationally-ranked Eagles was Cardinal sophomore
Breyton Buysman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), who led the team with a career-high 23 points.
Â
Monday afternoon, Buysman was rewarded for his efforts, being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Â
Buysman was a true thorn in the Eagles' side all game, knocking down 9 of 17 field goals — including a 5-for-11 effort from behind the 3-point line — and added six rebounds to fuel the Cardinal upset.
Â
Buysman and the Cardinals (3-5 overall) are off until Dec. 30, when they head to Chicago, Ill., for a 3 p.m. nonconference game against North Park.
