SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals enter Wednesday’s conference game against St. Catherine sitting at 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. After opening the season with back-to-back losses to Gustavus (85-45) and Macalester (72-56), SMU has rattled off back-to-back wins over St. Olaf (62-60) and Carleton (81-67).
• LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals put four players in double figures — led by Alyssa Coleman (Matteson, Ill.) with 17 points — in rolling to their second straight win, an 81-67 victory over Carleton last Saturday at the Saint Mary’s Gym.
• HOME SWEET HOME: After back-to-back road games to open the season, Wednesday’s contest against St. Catherine is the third consecutive home contests for the Cardinals. SMU — which finished 4-9 on its home floor a year ago — is 2-0 in its first two home contests this season.
• COMEBACK FOR THE AGES: Saint Mary’s overcame its largest fourth-quarter deficit since the NCAA switched from halves to quarters prior to the 2015-16 season against St. Olaf last Wednesday, rallying from 19 points down to beat the Oles 62-60.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) and Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) share the team lead in scoring, both averaging 13.3 ppg. Coleman is also scoring in double figures through four games, averaging 10.3 ppg. … With her 10 points against Carleton last Saturday, Paulson has netted 10 or more points 62 times in her collegiate career, including 19 games of 20 or more points.
• CRACKING 20: Saint Mary’s has had a player score 20 or more points in two of its four games. Goettelman tossed in 20 points against Macalester on Nov. 22 and Paulson delivered 21 vs. St. Olaf last Wednesday. … Goettelman’s 20-point effort against Macalester marked the second time in her collegiate career that the sophomore has scored at least 20 points, and was just two points shy of her career-high 22-point performance against St. Scholastica on Jan. 29, 2022.
• CLIMBING THE LADDER: Paulson, who recorded her 1,000th career point against Gustavus on Feb. 2, 2022, is sitting eighth all-time with 1,207 career points. Next up on the list — Vicki Wilson ’96, who is seventh with 1,256.
• SPREADING THE WEALTH: Saint Mary’s got at least three points from 10 of the 11 players who took the court against Carleton last Saturday. … SMU put four players in double figures for the first time this season against Carleton last Saturday — Coleman netted a team-high 17 points, followed by Ashley Streveler (Colby, Wis.) with 15, Goettelman with 11, and Paulson with 10.
• CAREER HIGH: Coleman’s 17-point showing against Carleton last Saturday was a career high. She is the first SMU player to record a single-game career-high of 10 or more points this season.
• DOUBLING UP: Katelyn Cruze (Litchfield, Minn.) collected the Cardinals’ first double-double of the season — and the first of her collegiate career — against Macalester on Nov. 22, scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds. The 11 points and 10 rebounds were both career-highs. … Paulson recorded four double-doubles last season and owns five double-doubles in her collegiate career.
• CLEANING THE GLASS: Paulson leads the Cardinals with 28 rebounds (7.0 rpg), followed by Cruze (24, 6.0 rpg) and Goettelman (20 (5.0 rpg). … Twenty-four of Paulson’s 28 rebounds through four games have come on the defensive end, while 12 of Cruze’s 24 have been offensive boards.
• FROM BEYOND THE ARC: The Cardinals poured in 12 3-pointers in their 81-67 win over Carleton last Saturday — equaling the 12 treys they had netted through their first three games of the season. … SMU’s 12 3-pointers against Carleton last Wednesday were just three shy of the single-game program record of 15, set against Concordia on Feb. 12, 2022. … Goettelman, Paulson, and Streveler all share the team lead with six 3-pointers this season.
• LENDING A HAND: Paulson and Streveler share the team lead in assists with 13 each. … SMU has gotten at least one helper from 11 of the 13 players who have seen playing time this season.
• BY THE NUMBERS:The Cardinals are shooting 35.8 percent from the field (86-for-240) with 24 3-pointers and are 48-for-71 (67.6 %) from the free throw line. … SMU is averaging 61.0 ppg, while the Cardinals’ opponents are scoring at a 71.0 ppg clip. … The Cardinals’ 81 points in last Saturday’s 81-67 win over Carleton were a season-high, and the most since scoring 85 points against those same Knights in an 85-58 win in the teams’ first meeting a year ago.
ST. CATHERINE WILDCATS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Wildcats head into Wednesday’s conference road game at Saint Mary’s sitting at 3-1 overall, with all four games also conference games.
• LAST TIME OUT: St. Catherine picked up its third win in four outings last Saturday, as Kaylee Miron scored 14 points and Emme Golembiewski added 10 in a 65-53 win over St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.
• ROAD SWEET HOME: Wednesday’s game against Saint Mary’s is SCU’s third road game of the year. The Wildcats are a perfect 2-0 on the road this season, while sporting a 1-1 mark in their two home contests.
• ON A ROLL: After opening the season with a 53-46 loss to Hamline, the Wildcats have rattled off three straight wins — a forfeit victory over Carleton (the Knights did not have enough players to field a team), and back-to-back victories over Macalester (68-52) and St. Scholastica (65-53).
• LEADING THE CHARGE: The Wildcats head into their conference matchup against Saint Mary’s boasting a balanced offensive attack, with seven different players averaging at least 5.0 ppg. … Golembiewski leads the way for SCU, averaging 9.7 ppg, followed by Greta Schimnowski (8.0 ppg), Sam Orth (7.3 ppg), and Karis Zezza (6.3 ppg). … Golemblewski’s 14-point effort against St. Scholastica last Saturday was the Wildcat’s single-game season-high.
• CLEANING THE GLASS: Golembiewski and Orth share the team lead in rebounds with 22 each (7.3 rpg), the duo have each posted seven offensive rebounds and 15 defensive boards. … Orth and Golembiewski have each posted nine-rebound games this season  Orth vs. Hamline on Nov. 19 and Golembiewski vs. St. Scholastica last Saturday.
• FROM DOWNTOWN: St. Catherine has knocked down 15 3-pointers this season, led by Schimnowski with four, and three each from Golembiewski and Rachel Randleman. … As a team, SCU is shooting 26.8 percent from the 3-point line (15-for-56).
• LENDING A HAND: Kaylee Miron has posted a team-leading eight assists, three more than both Zezza and Bree Glynn. The Wildcats have gotten at least one helper from 10 different players.
• BY THE NUMBERS: The Wildcats are 71-for-188 from the field (37.8 %) with 15 3-pointers, while going 19 of 29 (65.5 %) from the free throw line. … SCU is averaging 58.6 ppg, while the Wildcats’ opponents are scoring at a 53.6 ppg clip. … St. Catherine scored a season-high 68 points in beating Macalester 68-52 on Nov. 30.
