Anthony lands 3rd Team of Week honor

WINONA, Minn. — If Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) keeps this up, D3hoops.com may have to consider adding another spot on its weekly Team of the Week — because the Saint Mary's University senior is becoming a permanent fixture on the five-man squad.

For the third time this month, Anthony was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

And it wasn't a difficult decision.

Anthony — the league's leading scorer — averaged a jaw-dropping 29.0 ppg in the Cardinals' three games last week, while also hauling in 25 rebounds (8.3 rpg), dishing out 13 assists and collecting four steals in guiding SMU to a 2-1 record.

Anthony kicked off his week scoring 21 points and adding nine rebounds in SMU's rout of Augsburg last Monday, before tallying 25 points and eight boards two days later against Macalester. And the senior saved his best game of the week for last, matching his career high with 41 points, and adding eight rebounds and eight assists, in a four-point win over Concordia on Saturday.

Anthony's 41-point effort against the Cobbers marked the second time this season the senior has netted 41 points in a game — also achieving the feat against North Park on Dec. 30. Anthony's 41-point showings are the highest single-game individual performances since Will Wright netted 41 against MacMurray on Nov. 22, 2008 – and are just five points shy of the program record of 46, posted by Ken Jansen against Macalester during the 1956-57 season.

For the week, Anthony shot 66.0 percent from the field (31-for-47), including a 5 of 9 effort from 3-point land, and was 20-for-22 from the free throw line.
