WINONA, Minn. — Goals have been few and far between for the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team of late.
Â
After scoring less than two goals in 15 of their first 17 games — including each of their last six — the Cardinals were in dire need of an offensive breakthrough in their season-finale against Hamline Saturday afternoon.
Â
Unfortunately, the Cardinals' offense would remain in its late October hibernation, as Saint Mary's failed to find the back of the net and had to settle for a 0-0, season-ending stalemate against the Pipers at Ochrymowycz Field.
Â
The Cardinals dominated play over the game's opening 45 minutes, holding an 8-1 advantage in shots attempted, including a 2-0 edge in shots on goal.
Â
And it was more of the same in the second half, as SMU attempted nine more shots — with three finding their way to HU goalkeeper Isabella Jensen. Jensen, however, was up to the challenge, stopping all five shots she faced in blanking the Cardinals.
Â
Anna Peckosh (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) did her part in preserving the scoreless draw, stopping the lone shot she faced en route to her third shutout of the season and fourth of her collegiate career.
Â
The Cardinals close out the 2023 campaign with a 7-7-4 overall record, including a 2-6-3 mark in conference play. SMU's four ties — including three 0-0 draws — were the most in program history.
