WINONA, Minn. — It was a season-opening weekend to remember for Saint Mary's University's
Reese Heitzman (Hermantown, Minn.).
Â
Playing her first two collegiate games, Heitzman scored three goals and added two assists in the Cardinal women's hockey team's 7-0, 8-0 sweep Lake Forest last Friday and Saturday.
Â
And her efforts did not go unnoticed, as the freshman forward was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
Heitzman collected her first two collegiate points, delivering a pair of assists in her collegiate debut in last Friday's 7-0 win, before adding goals No. 1, 2 & 3 of her career in SMU's 8-0 win the following afternoon.
Â
Heitzman and the unbeaten Cardinals are back in action this weekend, hosting UW-Eau Claire in a 2 p.m. nonconference game at the SMU Ice Arena on Friday, before heading to Hunt Arena in River Falls, Wis., for a 7:05 p.m. matchup against nationally ranked UW-River Falls the following evening.
