Volleyball Loses to No. 5 Warhawks in Whitewater Invite Finale

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Cardinal volleyball team capped off their last regular season non-conference match up losing to the fifth ranked UW- Whitewater Warhawks Saturday afternoon.
 
The Cardinals kept the game even with Kali Olson starting off hot with back-to-back kills and assisted on a block with Paige Klug to go up 3-1 in the first set. The Warhawks responded with an eight point rally to take their first lead of the day. Olson poured in another kill and block along with the Warhawks errors to take an 11-10 lead. Whitewater nailed two service aces and multiple big kills to build a lead of 20-12. Kinlee Grattan tallied an ace at the end of the set and the Cardinals dropped the first set.
 
Grace King got the Cardinals started with a kill in the second set and Olson added another three kills with a 5-4 score. The Warhawks went on a 10 point run before it was stopped with e kill by Klug which spiraled two attack errors for the Warhawks. Alison Wu and Gretchen Bredberg earned two kills down 21-10. The lead was too much for the Cardinals to come back from as they fall two sets to none.
 
Olson led the way adding three kills in set three and assisted on a block with Isabella Schei to take a 5-4 lead. Similar to the first two sets, the Warhawks went on a run themselves with an 11-5 lead. Bredberg recorded two kills and another service ace from Gattan that brought the Cardinals within six at 20-14. The Warhawks capitalized on a few Cardinal mishits to take the game in three.
 
Olson notched 15 kills on the game and Devann Clemens assisted on 14 kills for the Cardinals.
 
The Cardinals return to action Friday, October 25th in St. Paul taking on St. Catherine University for a 7 p.m. game.
