WINONA, Minn. – You couldn't have asked for a more perfect day for a Cardinal soccer match at the Oak. They celebrated the dedicated seniors of the Saint Mary's men's soccer team in a match up versus the Carleton Knights. In the last home match for the Cardinals, the team fell Saturday afternoon to the Knights, 3-0.

The Knights kept the Cardinals on their toes as they controlled the ball in their half a majority of the first 20 minutes recording five corners and five shots compared to the Cardinals zero. The Cardinals struggled to connect on the long balls to get their momentum going.

One of the shots found the back of the net for the Knights as they took an early one goal lead at the 19
th minute mark. The Knights capitalized once more on a turnover resulting in an initial save by Cardinal keeper
Daniel Sessler but the rebound found the foot of a Knight and scored the second goal of the match at the 35
th minute to take a two-goal lead.

The Cardinals first shot on goal came at the 39
th minute of the half with an attempt by
Caleb Gilbert, saved by the Knight keeper. The Cardinals go into the half down by two.

Cohan Hare opened the second half with a solid shot on goal from wide of the box. The Knights responded with three shots of their own as they kept procession a majority of the next 20 minutes. The pressure was too much for the Cardinal defense as they surrendered another goal at the 61
st minute.

Anxious to net one, senior Lucas De Godoy takes a look at the net with a straight on shot being saved and started a small energy burst for his team as they began to hold the ball in the Knights end.

The Knights pressure was too much for the Cardinals as they drop their final home game of the season, 3-0.

The Cardinals next game is next Saturday, Nov. 1
