Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Swept by Saints

WINONA, Minn. – It was the Dig Pink match for the Cardinal volleyball team as they raised money for cancer research Saturday night. They hosted St. Scholastica in a conference match up and lost in three sets.

The Cardinals started on a 7-2 run with power behind each hitters kills. Clemens tallied two early service aces in the run. It was an all-around effort for the Cardinals as Kali Olson notched two kills and Gretchen Bredburg, Grace King, Brenna Bruchert, and Paige Klug each added one in the close match as things were tied at 18's. The Cardinals dropped set one as the Saints ended on a 9-2 run to finish.

In the second set, the match ups were even as the Cardinals went back and forth with the Saints until consecutive points by Bruchert, Klug, and Bredberg to get the Cardinals ahead 9-5. The Saints responded with a six-point run to take over with an 11-9 lead. The errors began to pile up as the Cardinals fell by eight late in the set despite the late Klug ace and Bredberg kill and could not get back on track. The Cardinals dropped set two.

The Cardinals kept trading points in the third set before put on a clinic of kills to fluster the Cardinals defense. Each kill for Cardinals seemed to result in five kills by the Saints to counter. It was a late fight by the Cardinals as they were down by eight points on the Saints match point as a kill from Klug and Olson and a block by Olson and Alison Wu to keep the Cardinals alive but the hole was too deep to dig themselves out of as were swept by the Saints.

Olson led the charge with 12 kills for the Cardinals. Clemens recorded 15 assists.

The Cardinals are back in action Friday, Nov. 1st to take on Bethel on the road at 7 p.m.
