RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The Saint Mary's men's basketball team lost to a tough UW-River Falls on Saturday evening. The Cardinals dropped to 2-2 on the young season after the 84-56 loss.
Jemari Moore nailed the opening basket of the game for the early lead but the Falcons countered with an eight point run. That run was stopped by
Khai Branham and
Owen Ziegler with a deficit of four.
The Cardinals went cold as they recorded just three points in five minutes with a basket and a foul from
Jabari Sawyer. By that time, the Falcon shot over (.60) percent from the field and took a 25-11 lead. Branham ended the drought with a three from the top of the key.
With under three minutes left in the first half, freshman
Jackson Harvey hit a three for his first points of the game.
The Cardinals were down 42-23 at the half and trailed the entire half besides the opening possession.
The Cardinals started the second half of action similar to the first with a lay up from Harvey to get the game rolling. Moore tallied two driving layups for back-to-back points. Sawyer earned himself a steal and Harvey recorded the layup for a shift in momentum for the Cardinals down 52-35.
The Falcons countered on every opportunity which ultimately hurt the Cardinals. The Cardinals played an even last two minutes with four points from
Reid Weckwerth and a three from
Sawyer Markham.
Despite their efforts, the team couldn't recover from the large deficit and fell to River Falls. Harvey led the team with 12 points, a career high. Moore with 11 points, two steals, and two assists.
The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, November 23rd for a 7 p.m. tip off against Elmhurst University in Illinois.
