ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Saint Mary's women's hockey (5-3) team traveled to the cities for game two against conference opponent St. Catherine (2-5). The Cardinals would sweep their conference opponent on the weekend with a 4-2 victory.Â

The Cardinals started play with a bang from sophomore
Sophia Paduano three minutes into the game to nail her first goal of the season to put the Cardinals ahead early, 1-0. The Cardinals held their momentum earning the first power play and then nailing the second goal.
Kenzie Meland hit the second goal of the game with an assist from fellow goal scorer, Paduano, five minutes later.

The Cardinals ahead 2-0 in the first period, similar to their first contest against the Wildcats. The Wildcats found their first score at the 10th minute mark, 2-1.

Not only did Paduano net the first of the season and the game, she netted the third goal of the game and her second of the season to bring the lead back to two at the end of period one.Â

The teams both struggled to get something going in the second period, again, similar to game one and both were scoreless going into the third period with dead even shooting with seven a piece.Â

In the final period, the Wildcats got within a goal a minute into the action attempting to strike fear in the Cardinals. The Cardinals played the game tight after they had to play lockdown defense as the Wildcats earned a power play late.Â

Who other than Paduano, the rookie of the year in the MIAC last season, to lift the Cardinals over the Wildcats to earn the weekend sweep. Paduano netted her third goal and tallied the hat trick with under a minute left.

The Cardinals will move onto 2-2 in conference play.Â

The Cardinals will play in the Dubuque Mississippi Matchup Tournament over the Thanksgiving break and will face Lake Forest College on Friday, November 29th for a 3 p.m. puck drop.Â
