APPLETON, Wis. - The Saint Mary's men's hockey team will go into Thanksgiving break on a three game win streak! The Cardinals defeated the Lawrence Vikings on the road Tuesday night 4-1.
 
Freshman Blake Green nets his first career goal as a Cardinal with an assist from fellow freshman Joona Juntunen. Senior Gabe Potyk recorded the first two goals of the game for goal number four and five on the season. Nathan Solis tallied the fourth goal for the Cardinals for his second of the season.
 
Both teams struggled to get going, but the Cardinals scored the first goal after ten minutes and never looked back. Potyk nailed the first goal on the first power play opportunity the Cardinals got. Colin Tushie and Solis landed the assist at the 14th minute.
 
Just two minutes later, Potyk landed the second goal of the game on even strength to give the Cardinals a bit of a buffer. Tushie nailed the assist for his teammate again to close out period one.
 
There was a lot of back-and-forth shooting in the second period, with neither team scoring until, with three minutes remaining, the Vikings closed the gap to just one goal behind the Cardinals on a power play of their own.
 
The Cardinals only up one goal going into the final period.
 
That was until Green made his debut goal at the 8th minute mark to notch his first goal and the team's third. The forward netted a crucial goal to put the team ahead by two with ten minutes remaining.
 
The Cardinals netted their fourth and final goal of the game coming off another missed power play opportunity but after two assists early, Solis tallied a goal of his own to shut down any chances of a Vikings comeback!
 
Before heading home for break, the Cardinals move 4-3 on the season and will have a feast knowing they are on a win streak.
 
Goaltender, AJ Ruskowski earned 23 saves in the win.
 
The Cardinals are back in action Friday, December 6th against conference opponent Concordia College at 7 p.m. This game will be extra special as the Saint Mary's men's hockey team sponsors the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to throw onto the ice when the Cardinals score their first goal.
