WINONA, Minn. – The Saint Mary's volleyball team finished their season at home in a loss to Macalester on senior night. The Cardinals honored their lone senior,
Alison Wu before the match.
Â
Saint Mary's held an early 4-2 lead over the Macalester Scots with two early kills from
Kali Olson and Wu to get them going. The Scots responded with a six point run on four kills and a service ace to force the early Cardinal timeout. Out of the timeout, Olson landed another ace with an added block and
Lindsey Rossow served an ace to get within four, 14-10. The Cardinals dropped the first set with blocking errors haunting them despite two late kills from
Grace King.
Â
The Scots tallied the first three points of the second set until
Paige Klug ended the short-lived run with a kill. Macalester held onto a five point run a majority of the set pouring in three aces, and the Cardinals giving up three serving errors. The Cardinals became out of system in their rotations and the Scots capitalized on every mistake. The Cardinals fell to two sets, 25-14.
Â
With nothing left to lose, the Cardinals started with an energetic third set. Klug, Olson, and Wu got their team on the board with early kills. It was the Scots who became culprits of attack errors. The Cardinals took their first lead 11-10 since the early goings of set one. Wu nailed back-to-back kills with two added kills from Gretch Bredberg to get within five. The Cardinals did not back down as they earned their way finishing on a five point run from King and two added blocks from Olson to bring things to even 24's. The Scots offensive pressure was too much as the Cardinals were swept by the Scots.
Â
Saint Mary's concluded their home and season finale with Olson recording 10 kills and Clemens with 15 assists in the loss. The Cardinals finished winless in conference and with an overall record of 9-20 and 0-11 in conference.
