WINONA, Minn. - The Saint Mary's men's hockey team (5-3-1) got a shootout win after a 2-2 tie with Concordia College (4-6-1) on Saturday afternoon.

The Cobbers struck first with a power-play goal at the 2:30 mark. The Cardinals answered back at the 10-minute mark, scoring to tie the game at 1-1. Sophomore
Cooper Smyl tallied his first goal of the season on a breakaway opportunity.

At the 15-minute mark, freshman
Joona Juntunen scored the Cardinals' second goal, giving them their first lead of the game heading into the final period.
Cole Mickel set up Juntunen with a perfect pass for the goal.

In the final five minutes of the game, the Cobbers even the game on another power-play to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Cardinals took four shots compared to the Cobbers five, both teams unable to find the back of the net and take their chances in the shootout.Â

Senior goaltender
AJ Ruskowski shut out all three of the Cobber attempts and Juntunen went on to score in the second round of the shootout and secure the win.Â

Ruskowski made a season high 44 saves on the night!Â

The Cardinals will take an extended holiday break and will not play until Saturday, January 4th at 7:05 p.m. at home against Lawrence.Â
