DULUTH, Minn. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (3-3) traveled to St. Scholastica (4-4) Saturday afternoon for their second game of conference action. The Cardinals would fall in a battle to the Saints 64-52.Â

The Cardinals went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by two layups from
Kali Olson and
Brianna Nusbaum, along with a three-pointer from
Julia Koch. The Saints' matched that with 13 unanswered points to take the lead at the two-minute mark of the quarter.Â

Emma Mann created a steal for a layup and Koch hit another three to close out the first quarter on top, 14-13.Â

The teams traded baskets in the first four minutes of action until The Cardinals' offense slowed down in the final minutes of the second quarter, scoring just nine points in the last five minutes. Mann knocked down a three-pointer,
Alyssa Coleman sank both of her free throws, and
Rylie Sternquist added a jumper in the lane for the Cardinals' final points of the half.

It took the Cardinals three minutes to find their first basket of the third quarter. Nusbaum stopped the drought. A steal and an open three for Koch landed as it was her third of the night and allowed the Cardinals to regain the lead 35-33 at the 6:20 mark.

The Cardinals went on an 8-0 run to take their biggest lead since the start at eight, 41-33, with three minutes remaining in the quarter. Turnovers hurt the team late as the Saints' jumped back ahead going into the final quarter 45-41.

Saint Mary's went five-for-five from the free throw line in the opening possessions of the quarter to get within a point at 47-46 with seven minutes of regulation remaining.Â

Turnovers and a scoring drought led to the Cardinals' defeat by the Saints in their final game of the week. The Cardinals recorded just two made free throws by
Lindsey Lettner in the final four minutes of the game which allowed the Saints to take a commanding win.Â

Koch recorded a career high 11 points on three three-pointers. Mann also added a career high seven points with two steals.Â
