WINONA, Minn. - On Wednesday night, the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team (5-11) was defeated by Gustavus Adolphus (12-3) with a final score of 85-65 in a conference matchup at home.Â

The Gusties are currently undefeated in conference play at 6-0.

Jonah Ogunsanya led the Cardinals with a career-high 21 points, making 7-of-15 baskets and two key three-pointers. He was also nearly perfect from the free-throw line, hitting five-of-six attempts.
Jabari Sawyer contributed significantly with 15 points and led the team in assists with four. He also secured six rebounds.
Jackson Harvey was perfect from the field, scoring 10 points on five-of-five shooting, and led the team in blocks with two.

In the first half, the teams traded early baskets, with Ogunsanya giving the Cardinals the first points of the game on a layup. The visitors quickly answered with a series of successful plays, including a layup and a three-pointer leveling the score at 8-8.

The Cardinals maintained competitiveness with consistent scoring from Ogunsanya, who contributed both layups and free throws, bringing their lead to 10-8 at one point.Â

However, the Gusties gained momentum midway through the half and came up with a strong finish with a 12-0 run, ending the half ahead at 44-29.

The Gusties opened on a 13-2 run over the Cardinals in the early minutes. Ogunsanya responded for Saint Mary's with a layup at the 12-minute mark, but the Gusties maintained control, taking advantage of the Cardinals turnovers and extending their lead with a series of layups and free throws.Â

Despite a late rally from the Cardinals, highlighted by two three-pointers from Ogunsanya in the final minutes, the Gusties outscored the Cardinals 41-36 in the half.

The Cardinals will next face Macalester this Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul.
