ST. PETER, Minn. - After 39 days away from competition, the Cardinal women's hockey team (8-5) made their return to the ice on Friday night, facing off against 5th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus (10-3) on the road. Unfortunately, the Cardinals fell to the Gusties by a score of 6-0 in the matchup.

Sophia Paduano led the Cardinals in faceoff wins, securing two out of seven, and took three shots.
Jenna Kurkowski stood out defensively with three blocked shots, the highest on the team.
Celeste Rimstad, as the team's goalie, contributed significantly with 35 saves in her last appearance, despite allowing six goals.Â

In the first period, Gustavus Adolphus took an early lead with a goal at 18:11. The Cardinals responded with a power play opportunity after a tripping penalty but were unable to capitalize despite shots from
Kas Kingston and
Allie Urlaub. Gustavus extended their lead with two more goals going into the second period.

The Gusties controlled the puck all game despite the Cardinals efforts as the lead jumped to 5-0 heading into the final minutes.

The Cardinals limited the Gusties to just one goal in the third period with their defensive play, but it wasn't enough.

The Cardinals will have another opportunity to face the ranked Gusties tomorrow at home, with a 2 p.m. game time.
