Cardinals Get Contributions from Four Different Scorers

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - On Thursday night, the Saint Mary's men's hockey team (8-7-1) traveled to Saint John's University (6-10) and defeated them 4-1, ending their four-game losing skid. Four different Cardinals found the net in the win.

Laudon Poellinger, Connor Abric, Nathan Solis, and Blake Green each contributed to the offense with a goal apiece.

The first period between the Cardinals and Saint John's ended in a scoreless draw, despite both teams generating plenty of chances. Cardinals goalie AJ Ruskowski was kept busy, recording 16 saves.

The Cardinals seized control early in the second period, with Green netting the first goal at 18:39, assisted by Tommy Wright and Warner Young. Later, the Cardinals made the most of a power play, as Poellinger scored at 10:04, with assists from Cole Mickel and Joona Juntunen. Despite several attempts from the Johnnies, goalie AJ Ruskowski kept them at bay, preserving a 2-0 lead for the Cardinals as the period came to a close.

The third period began with Saint John's generating multiple offensive opportunities early, but they were unable to convert. At 17:09, Abric scored for the Cardinals, extending their lead to 3-0. The Johnnies responded with a goal at 13:52, reducing the deficit to 3-1.

In the final minutes, Saint John's pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Smyl secured the win for the Cardinals with an empty-net goal at 1:23 to close the game.

The Cardinals will host the Johnnies at home on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop to wrap up the conference series.
