DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Saint Mary's men's hockey team (7-3-1) is off to a strong start in their three-game week, delivering a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon against the University of Dubuque (0-13-2). The Cardinals cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Spartans in Dubuque, extending their win streak to seven games.Â

The last time the men's hockey program enjoyed a seven-game streak was during the 1995-96 season, when they finished with a 14-8-4 record and an eight-game win streak.

The Cardinals came out strong, with freshman
Joona Juntunen scoring the first goal just three minutes into regulation on a rebound. Three minutes later, senior
Gabe Potyk extended the lead to 2-0, heading into the second period.

A minute into the second period, senior
Colin Tushie capitalized on a rebound after sophomore
Cole Mickel's shot ricocheted off the goalpost to make it 3-0. Sophomore
Carter Newpower added the fourth goal, and senior
Nathan Solis extended the lead to 5-0 with a power-play goal with 12 minutes left of the period. The Cardinals, who boast the highest scoring percentage in the conference, continued to dominate.

In the 15th minute, the Cardinals allowed their first and only goal of the game.

Three Cardinals who had scored in the opening periods found the net again, leading the team to a dominant 8-1 victory over the winless Spartans. Juntunen, Solis, and Newpower each recorded their second goals of the game.

The team's eight goals and 12 assists mark the highest offensive output of the season.Â
